Deep tissue massage uses slower, firmer strokes to reach the deeper layers of muscle and fascia. It is often confused with "hard massage", but the goal is precision rather than simply more pressure.
The therapist works slowly against the muscle grain to break up adhesions β the tight, stuck bands of tissue that cause stiffness and referred pain. Warm-up strokes usually come first so the deeper work is safe and effective.
Firm and sometimes intense around tight areas, and you may feel mild soreness for a day or two afterwards. It should never be unbearable β speak up if the pressure is too much.
Drink water and allow a day to recover. Avoid intense exercise immediately after, and book a follow-up if you are working through long-standing tension.
